There's no money here. Why don't we eat out every day, every single day? Back home we got some milk, it was really eckspensive! 600 yen, and it was good. But why don't we drink that milk here? If there's no money and everything is free then it would cost... No yen.

Yotsuba wants to go to a restaurant and eat today. Is that okay?

[For added effect her stomach starts to rumble.]

...It's really okay, right? Yotsuba wants to eat eyeball-fry. With a knife and fork! Even if it's still really cold it's a good idea, so everyone should come and eat with me.

[Jigen is just going to think about this little girl for a moment. She can't be more than five. That would explain the strange name for something which is probably common... Right? That's how kids work. Right...?]

Eyeball-fry... Little girl, where is your papa? Have him take you to the restaurant.

[Jigen doesn't really know how to talk to kids--let alone a five year old. This should be interesting.]

[Lots of people always seem to end up bringing up her father, so she's finally formulated a response to give when people ask that.]

Daddy is back home whilst Yotsuba is here! But someday daddy will come and find Yotsuba and everyone will be happy so it's okay, don't worry!

[Said pretty cheerfully. Sure it's sad her father isn't here, but she's been told enough times by now that one day he might come here himself, so that keeps her hopes up.]

[Quite the response from the five year old--Not what Jigs was expecting. This kid wasn't being annoying like most. He can deal with this in a somewhat fatherly way. Maybe.]

You're a brave little girl, aren't ya? Your daddy will be proud.

[Daddy being proud of her? This is another big motivating factor behind her being happy and trying to be good all the time, so he'll be really proud.

Trying of course being the prime word there.]

Yeah, really proud! When he shows up he'll give Yotsuba a big pat on the back and say 'well done, have all the ice cream you like', and Yotsuba will. Enough to get a tummy ache!

[Oh-shit. What has he started. This is totally adorable though and makes Jigen smile anyway.]

Make sure you remember all your papa has taught you and don't get into trouble. Maybe you'll also get a lot of this 'eyeball-fry' you seem to like.

Yotsuba remembers everything daddy has said, like how you should stay inside during typhoons. And if it's raining you should wear your galoshes 'cause they make you invincible!

[Daddy also said lots of other things, but it seems 'rain' is on her mind right now given those examples.]

Do you want some eyeball-fry too? It's yummy!

I would love to try it but I don't know where to go to find eyeball-fry.

You can get it at the restaurant, it's where Yotsuba used to get it back home all the time!

[Yes, the whole single time she went. But hey, that was some damn good eyeball-fry that one time.]

Just ask the person who takes what food you want and tell them... [Ahem] 'Scuse me, I want the eyeball-fry! I'm hungry. Than you get your food and eat it!

Just to make sure they don't bring me the wrong stuff, what does eyeball-fry look like?

It looks like a huuuge eye is staring back at you! It's an egg-- It has to be a big egg, and fried, so it looks like it's looking at you! Then it has to be put on top of hamburg steak. At last it comes with rice on a plate with it and you can eat it altogether! Yum yum yum~

[Fried egg. It's making sense now. With it making sense is Jigen's stomach beginning to make grumble noises.]

I'll have to hit up the nearest restaurant and ask about it. Will you be there?

Yeah, at the nearest restaurant! Yotsuba will be there with bells on!!

[Where on earth did she even learn that expression...]

If Yotsuba is there will you be there too so we can eat it together and pat our bellies after?

I'll buy you all eyeball-fry you want if we eat together. We'll pat our bellies when they're super full.

[God. What is this little girl doing to Jigen's not-fatherly instincts. This never happens to him but she's just too damn adorable.]

Really? So Yotsuba can eat as much as I want? Whoaaah.

[Just the thought of all that food is enough to make her stomach rumble.]
