THREE ⌘ Yotsuba and Eating Out [Video]
Hey. Heeey!
[She's talking to you, journal.]
There's no money here. Why don't we eat out every day, every single day? Back home we got some milk, it was really eckspensive! 600 yen, and it was good. But why don't we drink that milk here? If there's no money and everything is free then it would cost... No yen.
[...]
Yotsuba wants to go to a restaurant and eat today. Is that okay?
[For added effect her stomach starts to rumble.]
...It's really okay, right? Yotsuba wants to eat eyeball-fry. With a knife and fork! Even if it's still really cold it's a good idea, so everyone should come and eat with me.

[ action ]
[Idly kicking her legs back and forth for the duration of the ride, looking around once they're both outside.]
Everything looks different when you're high up!
[ action ]
[ she makes short work of the walk, chattering away as they went. ]
[ action ]
[Tall by five year old standards anyway.
Once they've arrived she'll start wiggling around in an attempt to get back down.]
Rides over, time to get off!
[ action ]
[ at the door, she drops yotsuba gently inside -- avoiding the snow altogether. ]
You can pick the table. So long as it's an awesome one.
[ action ]
[Dashing off to find a window seat, because window seats are the best places ever. You get to eat and look outside. What's not to love?
Once she's found a table that she's happy with, and it looks like she put some thought into it having sat down at two other tables before this one, she gives Buffy a wave.]
See? Do you see, it's awesome!
[ action ] buffy > yotsuba > jack?
[ she falls into the seat across from yotsuba, shedding her own coat quickly and draping it over the back of the chair.
she crosses her arms on the table, flicking open a menu with her thumb. ] What d'ya want?
[ action ] Sounds good to me!
Yotsuba would liiike... Eyeball-fry! It's hamburg steak with a fried egg on with rice and it's very yummy.
[Do they even serve that here? Ah well, she's asking for it anyway.]
And some orange juice. Please.
[ action ] might be slow---working
He so very much does not want to face the child. He so very much wants the coat. And pancakes---that wasn't a lie.
In his hands he is clutching a child's winter coat, which he picked up at the clothing store on his way to the restaurant. He'll make it a trade, and it's for...well, just in case she doesn't have a better one.
Not that he cares, of course. He does not care. He is Captain Jack Sparrow, damn it.
It isn't difficult to spot a green-haired girl in the window seat; it's the sight of the woman sitting with her that suddenly drains the pirate's face of all color and makes him feel like the dirtiest Judas who ever betrayed another. Now it's just a matter of swallowing that bile and making his way over to the table, trying to look as casual as possible. He doesn't have to stay, of course. There don't have to be pancakes.
He never wanted them anyway.
Jack clears his throat as he approaches the table:]
Milady. Small child. I believe you have something of mine.
[ action ] /wishes you productivity
[ she turns her head at the sound of a cleared throat. well.
without taking her eyes off jack: ] Orange juice sounds perfect. Let's make it two. Maybe three.
[ action ] /wishes also :Db
[Pushing herself away from the table and shimmying out of the chair so she can properly hand him the coat. Taking extra special care to hold it off the floor, so she practically has it above her head as she walks.]
Here you go, good as new and smelling like a meadow, like the soap box said!
[action] THANKS
Coat for a coat and we're square, then.
[She cleaned it, this little cricket. The meadow smell actually...isn't that bad. But not piratey. Not piratey at all. He can feel his ears burning with the humiliating not-pirate-ness of it all. Somewhere, inside, Teague is giving him that furrow-browed stare. And he knows he deserves it.]
Suppose I'll leave you to your breakfast, eh?
[action]
[ a little more hopeful than she means to sound. after all, she mostly just wants to jokingly move past this strange moment. it's tough to forget the coldness that had crept into jack's voice when they had last talked about yotsuba. ]
'Cause I've never known you to turn down a meal. And this one's on me. Except for the tip. Yotsuba's got that covered.
[action]
Thank you!! Yotsuba has a coat now, and it's the same colour as strawberry ice cream. If it had some fluff fall in it.
[Delectable. Clambering back into her seat and patting the table top with her hand.]
Join us, join uuus! We can all eat together and everyone can have fun together right too, right?
[Plus she totally has that tip covered, what with this spare button in her pocket. Total tip material right there.]
[action]
[There is no mistaking that tone in Buffy's voice. Possibly more trouble will come from running from this. He will just sit quietly, then, and get some coffee into his body. When it arrives, he will lace it with some of the rye left in his flask. He isn't going to make a huge effort to hide what he's doing. Why should he?
And even though he sits with them, it is with one leg conspicuously sticking out from under the table, as though he is ready to leap up and leave at a moment's notice. He folds the coat over the back of his seat. There is something akin to satisfaction--not gladness though, no---over her reception of the pink furry coat. He would never admit how much time he spent examining the children's clothing and picking just the right one.]
Now you won't be cold in the snow, girl.
[action]
so she turns back to the girl. ] Hey. Yotsuba. Tell Jack about the super clever way we kept his coat unslushed while high-tailing our way over here.
[action]
[It's important to note her expression changes whenever something 'good' or 'bad' occurs in her little explanation. Also everything is accompanied by over the top hand movements. She's a very animated girl.]
So Buffy gave Yotsuba a piggy back ride again, all the way here. It was really tall and Yotsuba could see really far, but Buddy lied and said she isn't tall, but she is, right?!
[But that doesn't have anything to do with that super clever thing they did, so--]
But yeah, we got all the way here and your coat never touched the snow. nuh uh, not once the entire time! Isn't that super clever!? Now you can stay warm in a clean coat and Yotsuba won't be cold in the snow with this new coat! Everyone wins!
[action]
[LIES. Especially considering some of the things Jack himself has put that coat through. Mud, blood, sea salt, sand, woodchips, sweat.]
Buffy's carried me about, too. She's very strong, is Buffy. And very, very tiny, though not so tiny as yourself.
[And what story had he fed Jilly? "Magical Princess"? He doesn't have the heart to re-create anything like that now. He goes on to mumble, awkwardly:]
Well done on cleaning it up, girl. It's a very valuable thing to me, this coat.
[action]
before buffy can register her complaints, it's time to make the food order and she makes her executive decisions -- trying to explain to restaurant's staff just what yotsuba was looking for. it doesn't go well. kinda like a game of telephone. who knows what the girl will end up with on her plate. ]
What I wanna know is how you ended up with his coat in the first place...?
[action]
[The mumbling goes unheard by the girl as she gets ready to explain how she wound up with the coat.]
Yotsuba is telling lots of stories today! [Ahem, clearing her throat.] Yotsuba found Captain Jack by the playground and he was making a coffin! You could books in it and it would look very nice--
[And then she just bursts out laughing because she remembers that one word which always seems to get her going.] Mooshpot! Yeah, he said some funny words and Yotsuba was laughing really hard!! [Teehee~]
But then Captain Jack said we should play a game! Yotsuba got buried in the snow, all the way up to my chin! It was like being at the beach and getting covered in sand, but with snow! It was too cold though, so Captain Jack gave me his coat and told me to go home.
[A little more seriously now, as opposed to the excited tone of voice she was using for the rest of her story time.]
And then Yotsuba wasn't naughty and did the right thing by going home. So I'm not naughty!!
[action]
Heh. A fun game. Erm. Yes. It were GOOD to keep it clean, girl. And not-naughty, your going home at the end of it all.
[He probably vainly hopes for no more stories of his recklessness that will get him in trouble with the slayer. He STILL feels guilt over doing that to Yotsuba.]
[action]
[ cue the look of what the actual heck, you buried a tiny girl in the snow?
luckily, the orange juice arrives. three glasses of pure distraction. and jack's coffee, too -- but clearly his ordering the java didn't stop buffy from ordering him the oj to go with it. ]
[action]
[This calls for a big slurp of orange juice so to celebrate not being naughty. Raising her glass a little in a sort of toast.]
To not being naughty, yeah!
[Sluuuuurp.]
[action]
[Oh, that look from Buffy makes him grumpy. He raises his now-spiked coffee and toasts with Yotsuba.]
To not being naughty, eh? And to being very, very sorry for it after we have been. Possibly sorry forever and ever.
[action]
To not being naughty. And, also? To laundry detergent.
[action]
[Setting her glass down and sighing happily.]
The juice is in good form, give my complimats to the chef.
[Mind if she takes a look at the menu? It's fun to just flip through the pictures of food and try reading out some of the names.]
